Haiti Tragedy Spotlights Challenges of Post-Disaster Communication
This week, the world quickly focused its attention on Haiti, as it
became the site of a major natural disaster. Although it has been a
few days since the earthquake, many people are still waiting to
learn whether their loved ones in the Port-au-Prince area are okay.
When a disaster of any size strikes, getting in touch with family
and friends can be difficult if the disaster temporarily displaces
you from your apartment. Here are some options to keep in mind that
may help you and the people who care about you connect after a
crisis. Haiti Tragedy Spotlights Challenges of Post-Disaster

Beyond Our Backyards: How to Help Haiti
The ongoing devastation of this week's earthquake in Haiti is one
of those events that takes our focus off the troubles in our own
backyards and across endless miles to a place that was already one
of the world's most impoverished and toxic places to live. Muster
up some of that DIY energy and support one of the relief efforts
underway throughout the world. But do you research, to make sure
your donation is handled by a legitimate organization, like the
American Red Cross. A good starting point is to read "A Donor's
Guide to Global Emergencies," by Joanne Fritz, About.com Guide to
Nonprofit Charitable Organizations. Also consult information for
